GSOC34 COMMENTATORS BOX

COMPATABILITY
Although this commentator’s unit (CU) is a development from our original GSOC4 and GSOC24 commentators unit’s, it is not compatible. This unit will only operate correctly with our GS0C33 commentators control unit (CCU). If connected to any of our previous base CCUs such as GSOC3, GSOC5 or GSOC8, no damage will occur but operation will not be correct.

FACILITIES
Our sketch A2-14400 shows the panels of the GSOC34. It has provision for 3 commentators. Each commentator can listen to 6 different audio sources. They can individually decide at what level and in what ear they wish to monitor each source. There is a 7th hidden source namely talkback, which the commentators are forced to hear. There are 3 internal presets that are used to set this talkback level to each commentator.

Microphone inputs are provided for all 3 commentators A, B and C. Input C can also be switched to accept a line level input such as a tape machine, instead of a microphone. Each input has it’s own compressor/limiter to ensure that the level is suitable for transmission down the co-ax link. The input gains can be set high or low by the technician from the CCU. Twelve volt phantom power can be switched to all 3 microphones. Because phantom power microphones generally have a higher output level than dynamic microphones, we automatically reduce the mic amp gain when phantom power is switched on.

All three Commentators can toggle their microphones on or off to contribute to the main mix. In addition, they can talk to their ‘home’ or to the local technician. When the home or technician button is pressed, the commentator’s microphone is automatically disconnected from the mix and fed instead to the appropriate circuit. Commentator C is sometimes used for a local producer. Therefore it is possible to permanently latch the talk to home button on. This is achieved by tapping the button. Provision is made to modify the operation of the 9 push button switches on the front of the CU. This is achieved by connecting a special unit to the D connector on the rear panel of the CU.
