GS-MPI Mobile Phone Interface
This product is no longer being manufactured. This page is for historical information only.
This robust little device allows high quality broadcast microphones and professional headphones to be connected to a mobile (cell) phone.
It is powered by one AA battery and has a battery life in excess of 35 hours. A front panel LED indicates that the GS-MPI is turned on and also flashes to indicate that the battery is running low. In the event of the battery being completely flat (or not being inserted) then the unit will still send the output of the microphone to the cell phone.
The unit connects to the mobile phone by a 2.5mm jack plug. 2.5mm jack sockets are used on mobile phones for connecting to third party headsets or earpieces. For phones that do not use a 2.5mm jack socket for their headset/ earpiece connection then small adaptors are available that interface with most mobile phone handsets. These adaptors can be ordered from Glensound but are also available from most mobile phone retailers.
Once plugged in, the mobile phone recognises the GS-MPI as a headset which disables the mic and speaker on the mobile phone.
The GS-MPI has one XLR input. This can be switched between mic level and line level for connecting broadcast quality microphones or the output of mini discs or other recording devices to the mobile phone.
An internal headphone amplifier with a small rotary level control is fed from the output of the mobile phone and mixes in side tone derived from the XLR input of the GS-MPI. The headphone amplifier output is on a standard 1/4 “ jack socket suitable for both A and B guage plugs. The headphone amplifier is optimised for use with professional headphones with impedances of 200 to 2000 Ohms.
The GS-MPI is only 4 x 2.5 x 1.5 Inches (10 x 6.5 x 4 cms) weighs 280g and is fitted with a belt clip.
